Free chlorine 04 of trichloroisocyanuric

The use of trichloroisocyanuric acid tablets …

… usually takes place there, where no measurement- and control system is available.

Trichlorisocyanuric acid (completed: chlorinated isocyanurates) is an organic chlorine product, that works as a depot for free chlorine. The advantage of using trichloroisocyanuric, a permanent (Re-) dosage be unnecessary, is bought with significant measurement errors and mistakes.

One can imagine a sponge, consisting of trichloroisocyanuric acid. The water slowly decompose these sponge. The process is called hydrolysis and may be more than 30 take days.

The trichloroisocyanuric acid decomposes into hypochlorous acid, which acts as a disinfectant, and isocyanuric.

The problem is in the time course. While the hypochlorous acid is consumed in the disinfection, the isocyanuric remains intact and is more and more concentrated in water.

The most common error arises in the measurement of the concentration by DPD method. With the DPD method, the sum of chlorine and isocyanuric appears on the photometer. A correlation between effective disinfecting chlorine and disinfecting ineffective isocyanuric can only be made, when the concentration of isocyanuric acid can be measured by a second method. The real concentration of free chlorine must then be determined by calculation.

Trichloroisocyanuric is in German swimming-DIN (19643 Part 1) not included, probably because the ability of the measurement technology and the user is challenged to correctly calculate. Of course, this disinfectant is but often in private swimming pools Application.

Furthermore, an additional environmental impact caused by the residual in the water slowly biologically degraded isocyanuric.

After metering in water, the pH of the water is lowered slightly by the cyanuric acid.
